Cool Revolution

February 10, 2006

The meeting place was at Burger King, Welcome Rotunda, Quezon City at 5am. People were still taking their breakfast and we left at past 6. Baguio, here we come to warm you up! We made three stopovers: One bus had its airconditioner malfunctioning, the next was for a leak break, and finally for lunch. We reached the highlands at 2pm.

At Burnham park, people knew we were tourists, tourists in our own country. Yet among the 6,000 delegates for the Singles for Christ 13th International Leaders Conference. Our language was Tagalog even if there are foreign delegates. We were taking photos here and there. The designated lodging for our delegation was at the Teachers Camp (full of ghost stories as told by the media).

By 7pm, we had our supper and the fun began. There was an opening worship, followed by the Bounce competition (dance), SFC Pop Idol (singing), band competition,

Lawrence Quintero gave Talk 1, The Great Revolt, focused on raising a generation of leaders and martyrs among the average people. We are the heroes, the brave hearts, the faithful, holy patriots, and witnesses of the love of God as His chosen ones.

As early as 6am, the participants for the Revo challenge (sort of an Amazing Race) were already up and they were on the go around Baguio while we were having breakfast.

More sports followed: volleyball (MM won), basketball, fun games. Seminars and workshops were help until the afternoon. These were about the 3-pronged Approach, She's All That (on womanhood), SFC vocations, Spiritual Deepening, Music Ministry, Events Management Workshop, SFC in Gawad Kalusugan, How to Start Your Own Business, Mid-career Self Review Workshop, and SFC in Oikos.

An anticipated mass followed.

That night, Talk 2 was Firstblood by Marla Quiaiot. This is the movement that we should all undertake to create a better world, sacrifices included but with rewards of happiness and fulfillment.

The Oath of Triumph was Talk 3 and Frank Padilla spoke of spiritual deepening and how to live more like a child of God. The LXS were presented (League of Extraordinary Singles) and they gave testimonies to the awakening of the love for God through His people.

I was not able to come to the mass early because of some traffic so I went to the 7am mass with my friends at the Baguio Cathedral and we bought some goods after that.

Singles Revolution, Talk 4, was the theme of the ILC. The talk was given by Roel Aguirre. He posed a challenge to all single men and women, for Christ.

We were on our way back to Manila by 4pm, had supper at Hacienda Luisita and was back at Burger King by 11 pm.

Jollibee has been very supportive of our gastronomic desires.
