A Review of Rama Hari

Rama Hari is adapted from the Indian epic Ramayana. Since I would be talking about the performance, I will focus on that.

The show just ran for more than a week at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, from November 30 to December 9, 2012. Singers were the voices of the lead characters. The performance is more about the ballet dance. The music was done by Ryan Cayabyab. I apologize I forgot the conductor. The chorale was Concert Chorus.

The dance, music and songs were good. Though there were some problems regarding the sound system, i.e. the lapel mike of the one singing for Hanuman was not working. but when he was off-stage, it was replaced. The lapel mike of the one singing for Rama was choppy. The stage set was very simple. Since there was a translation of the song which was projected at the stage top, I would say that the translation is not accurate. Moreover, when the verses/lines of the songs were repeated, there were no more projections. Yes, there were foreigners among the audience.

Though I did  not give it a standing ovation, I hope this dance will open doors to local performances that the Filipinos would appreciate.
